REFRAMING NATURE:
Artists Look at the Natural World
June 25 - July 30, 2006
Gallery hours,
Thursday through Sunday, 1:00 to 5:00PM.
Other times by appointment.
The Gallery at Spencertown
Academy Arts Center presents Reframing Nature a group exhibition of artists
engaged in a dialogue with nature. Observations, subjectivity and culture are
examined, as the artists create work that defines a contemporary experience in
and of the natural world. Familiarity with many of the motifs forges a
connection between the viewer and the work; yet diverse and imaginative
approaches to visualizing the motifs – ceramics, glass, photographs, masks,
prints, installations – compel the viewer to reframe that familiarity.
The exhibition, organized by head curator Gwenn Mayers and artist Nancy
VanDeren, includes works by: Sally Apfelbaum, Jennifer Archer, Jim Burnett,
Irene Clark, Dianne Corbeau, Katie DeGroot, Millie Falcaro, Wesley Fleming,
Jennifer Formica, Pat Goldstein, Shelley Haven, Holly Hughes, Anne V.M. Kibbe,
Dag Scheer, Yoko Sekino-Bove, Ilene Sunshine, Michael Tong, and Carrie Waldman.
The exhibitions will be on view through July 30, 2006. The Gallery at
Spencertown Academy Arts Center is open Thursday through Sunday from 1:00 to
5:00PM and other times by appointment.
