The Gallery at Spencertown Academy Arts Center presents an exhibition inspired by a new book, “Woodland Chic” by Marlene Marshall (Storey Publishing, April 2010). The exhibition explores the awakened interests in conservation and the diverse elements of nature that captivate artists.
Nature has been worshiped and revered as far back as the Pagans. A simple encounter with nature is a sparkling moment to be embraced and enjoyed. Artists create work from and about Mother Nature capturing all her extraordinary layers as well as their own.
The exhibition, curated by Marlene Marshall, includes works by: Carole Clark, Janet Cooper, Ellen Grenadier, Ann Getsinger, Bryan Nash Gill, Karen Halverson, Joan Meakin, Mona Mark, Nic Osborne, Peter Thorne, Sarah Sterling, Jay Rohrlich, Jackie Wilder, Sabine Vollmer von Falken, and Tom Zetterstrom. (Click links to view artists' websites.)
An opening reception with the artists will be held on Sunday, May 31 from 4:00 to 6:00pm. The gallery at Spencertown Academy Arts Center is open Thursday through Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00pm. Admission is free.
Marlene Marshall will lead a slide lecture and workshop entitled “Woodland Chic: Designing with found woodland materials” on Saturday, June 13, 2009 from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Tuition for the class is $25 plus a $10 material fee. Pre-registration is required.
