INFORMATION FOR ARTISTS

Spencertown Academy Arts Center

Housed in a historic landmark 1847 Greek revival school house, Spencertown Academy  is a a not-for-profit arts center that presents a variety of arts and cultural programming. These include: exhibitions of fine arts and craft; performances of classical, traditional and cabaret music; spoken word programs; Sunday Salon discussions; arts-in-education in the local public schools and a variety of workshops and classes.

The Gallery

The Gallery comprises two exhibition spaces: the larger space is approximate 38 X 15’ and the smaller is 16X15’. Both rooms have abundant natural light as well as track lighting.

The Gallery presents eight shows per year, each on view for approximately six weeks. We present solo, two-person and thematic group shows of work in all media.

The galleries are curated by a volunteer committee of three artists and an art historian working with the Academy’s Executive and Artistic Directors.

Selection of Work

Twice per year The Galley issues a call for entries for upcoming shows. Selection of work is based on the curatorial committee review of work in slide or electronic format. Submissions should be representative of the work that you will show; the curators reserve the right to reject any work.

In some cases, curators may also make studio visits or ask to see interim images, particularly if there is a long lead time between selection of work and date of exhibit.

Commission

The Academy takes a 35% commission on all works sold during the exhibit.

Promotion

The Academy produces a post card mailing for each exhibition and prepares and distributes press releases to local and regional media outlets. The Gallery hosts an opening reception for each exhibition and schedules at least one special event such as an artist’s gallery talk or children’s art workshop during each show.
